Phishing: fake sites, fake support, fake giveaways
Summary
Phishing tricks you into giving away a password, a recovery phrase or a wallet approval. It arrives as a look-alike website, a fake support account replying to your post, or a giveaway that asks you to connect your wallet. Real support never asks for your recovery phrase. Type important addresses yourself or use saved bookmarks instead of clicking links in messages.
Key points
- Nobody legitimate ever needs your recovery phrase.
- Look-alike addresses differ by one letter: type or bookmark them.
- Support accounts that message you first are almost always fake.
Check yourself
Someone from "support" asks for your recovery phrase to fix a problem. What should you do?
